Intermediate/Senior Power Systems Engineer

As we continue to grow, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Power Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team.
Position Overview: As a Senior Power Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in leading the design, analysis, and optimization of power systems. You will be responsible for project proposals, conducting power system studies, developing engineering deliverables, and commissioning projects for new and existing systems. The successful candidate will bring extensive expertise in power systems engineering, a proven track record of successful project delivery, and a passion for driving innovation in the field.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead power systems engineering projects from concept to completion.
- Conduct detailed load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and voltage drop and other related software studies.
- Address power quality issues by identifying sources of harmonic distortion, voltage fluctuations, and other disturbances.
- Develop protection and coordination schemes for power systems.
- Conduct long-term planning studies to assess capacity requirements and support strategic decision-making.
- Conduct detailed system analyses to identify vulnerabilities and recommend protective measures.
- Design and implement solutions to improve system operation, personnel safety, and power quality.
- Integrate with automation and SCADA systems using variety of industry communication protocols.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, documentation, and project updates.
- Attend site visits for data collection and startup/commissioning support.
- Act as a technical liaison with clients, understanding their needs and providing expert guidance on power system solutions.
- Participate in client meetings, presentations, and discussions to address technical queries and project progress.
- Ensure that project documentation meets industry standards, applicable regulations, and organizational requirements including our quality management system.
- Stay informed about industry trends, research findings, and technological advancements.
- Provide technical leadership to the engineering team, guiding and mentoring junior engineers.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment to encourage knowledge sharing and skill development.
- Contribute to research and development initiatives within the organization to drive innovation in power systems engineering.
- Other duties as assigned.
As the ideal candidate you possess the following:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience in power systems engineering, with a focus on substations and industrial distribution.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Alberta and British Columbia would be considered an asset.
- In-depth knowledge of power system analysis tools (e.g., SKM, ETAP).
- Strong project management skills and the ability to deliver projects on time and within budget.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Valid Class 5 drivers license and passport for occasional travel.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in power systems engineering.
- Demonstrated experience in leading and managing engineering projects and teams.
- Previous field experience in industrial and electrical utility environments
